Nina Cambron

My major in art school was drawing and I still consider myself first and foremost a draftsman, a glass artist second. Every piece begins with a drawing before cutting any glass. Great design is always on my mind and I love that the very nature of glass - the simplification and cutting of shapes - forces me to finetune my designs into their simplest forms.

Each piece is then approached as if it were a painting on canvas, overlapping and layering glass to achieve a multitude of hues, shapes and patterns, working from the bottom up. I liken this richness of layering with the subtlety and movement often associated with watercolor, yet possessing the fluidity and depth that is only possible with glass.

All my work is fired at temperatures around 1500 degrees fahrenheit, some pieces requiring more than one firing.

My figures are then meticulously assembled, some utilizing antique shoe lasts and found objects, chain and beads. Welded and hand wrought iron stands often complete the piece. Each has a bio and is a limited edition, most no larger than 50, never more than 100.
