Harajuku Swimwear

HARAJUKU was founded as a club-wear line in 1983 in New York City by owner/designer JoEllen Stooks, who, at the time, was Store Manager of the legendary Unique Clothing Warehouse in the East Village. The line was carried at Unique as well as other Manhattan boutiques, and eventually, in 1988, JoEllen opened her own seasonal business on Martha's Vineyard- a great way to escape the city for the summer! It was there that the line evolved into mostly swimwear. After a brief stint with a store in Miami's South Beach, and three years on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles, we are now only offering our swimsuits online and on a wholesale basis. Everything we sell is hand-made in our Los Angeles studio, where you can order custom-made suits if you're in town.
